While most people would agree that while Nemesis isn't exactly the most...pleasant of young women, her appearance certainly makes up for it. She had always been regarded as one of the prettiest girls where she grew up, and that same opinion held true for most of her adolescence, right up into school. Neither of her parents (one of whom possessed distant, distant ties to the Black family) was particularly ravishing or even just plain old good-looking, so she just assumed some sort of mutation was passed down in the genes of two average people to spawn at least one socially acceptable child. What a great chance that was.Picture:
Nemesis's hair is that black colour whose existence most people debate about; few people find it to be a true hair colour and pass it off for very dark brown, even though it looks to have an almost bluish tint to it. Her pride and joy, it's rather long, and though she incessantly complains about its length getting in the way during physical activity, she'd rather do something thoroughly embarassing and/or disgusting than cut it. While she doesn't seem to be very "girlish" and prissy, she does care a great deal about her hair.
Her most remarkable feature (her other features being fairly average: nice, straight nose and a small mouth), the colour of her eyes, is hard to judge, mostly because few people have gotten close enough to see them, and also partially because they're known to change colour with her moods. Usually, they're an extremely light blue-grey, so close to being light violet that it's quite interesting to try to explain to people she truly has "purple" eyes.
She's not spectacularly tall, but taller than most of the girls she knows: just about 1.7 metres (5' 7"), with long limbs that seem rather fragile. She's stronger than she looks though, due to some rather strenuous physical training. She's on the thinner side (due to certain circumstance she'd rather not share), and unfortunately for her poor spine, rather heavily endowed in the chest area. Such is the unfortunate fate of one who has a tiny mother and an Amazonian father.
Over all, her appearance could be described as enigmatically beautiful. Most can agree that she's fairly good looking, above average, but few can appreciate the "darker" beauty she possesses. For instance, she has quite a few ear piercings and an eyebrow piercing, which most people don't find to be too attractive, and often times rather "scary". Her father always told her she'd have to beat off the boys with a stick. Most of them are too afraid to even consider it.

There's no better way to define Nemesis Nyx than a dictionary defintion. Nemesis is all of the above. She's a challenging person. She's ambitious, rightfully being placed in Slytherin. Shrewdness abounds, but the kind of cynical sagacity that flies over the heads of even the smartest. Sarcastic is an understatement. Just about everything that comes out of her mouth is sarcasm. At the same time, when she isn't being sarcastic and she's having a real conversation with someone (rarely, as mostly her conversations are limited to threats of bodily harm and snide remarks or meaningless filler) she's a very sincere person. Despite the fact that she lies to get out of a lot of things, she will never lie to a real friend.
She's the type of person that demands respect, even though she's viewed as rather frightening and challenging. Most people won't look her in the eyes, which she hates. She feels that if someone can't look her in the eye, they're being dishonest, and honesty is one of her most valued traits. She's incredibly stubborn most of the time, rarely yielding to anyone's demands. She isn't mean, per se, but instead only bitter about things beyond her control.
It's obvious she spends most of her time alone, by choice or not. However much it may seem that she enjoys solitude, it drives her insane to be alone. The main reason she makes snide remarks to people is so at least they talk to her, instead of ignoring her completely. Occasionally she wishes she could just be some dumb floozy so that she can be popular and loved by everybody.
Her biggest flaw is probably her mistrust for people, and the inability to become close to anyone. She's so detached that she rarely realises what even the most socially inept person can realise about her fellow students. What most people don't know is that despite her appearance of self-confidence and apathy about what others think, she really does care deeply about what other people think, and takes what anyone says extremely seriously to the point that she can be internally shocked when she finds out it's a lie.
She feels she doesn't have the ability to flirt, and that nobody would really fancy her anyway because they're all too busy being afraid of her. Because of this, she isn't shy around boys. She can be somewhat of a misandrist at times, though, because ultimately, jealousy will prevail when she sees other girls, who she thinks she's just as good as or even better, with men falling in their laps. Well, she does flirt, but without realizing it to be flirting. Her flirting is just comprised of a lot more insults and foul words than most people care for.
Over the past few years, she's come to terms with the fact that there is at least one individual who somehow managed to get to her, whether he was under her skin in a good or bad way. As such, she shows a certain weakness for said invidual. But only in private. The only other person she seems to show a soft spot for is her younger sister, Cassandra, to whom she's more like a mother sometimes, due to the fact that there was a great deal of protection needed in their home.

While she'd like to believe her early life was affluent, Nemesis's was far from it. She was for the most part as happy a child as she could be in her situation, but that didn't last for very long. Most of the details of her childhood weren't made apparent to her until much later in her life. She was born when her mother was only sixteen, and her father was nearing his forties, somewhere in the middle of the Irish countryside. At the time, it was unknown to her grandmother, and her father's wife, a different woman than her mother. Her parents had a short-lived affair of two years that ended abruptly after Nemesis's mother died in childbirth with her younger sister.Family:
It wasn't long after that, not knowing what to do, her father brought Nemesis and her sister back to Italy where he lived with his wife, Charisse, and his twenty-one-year-old daughter, Nemesis's half-sister. Unfortunately, his mother, Arethusa Nyx, a very acclaimed figure in pureblood society, also lived with him. She was enraged with the fact that her son had two illegitimate children, something that Nemesis would never hear the end of. Charisse committed suicide nearly a month later. A short while after that, Nemesis's father, a Death Eater, was killed by Aurors. Her grandmother raised her and her sister from there on. She was rather abusive, justifying her actions with the fact that her granddaughters were both abominations, and Nemesis still carries scars--physical and emotional--from it. The biggest scar of all was left on her sister, Cassandra. Her grandmother had decided the best punishment of all for something neither had done was to kill them, so she pushed them both out a window. They survived the fall, Nemesis marked with several scars across her back that would never heal. Cassandra, however, was left blind when shards of glass severed her optical nerves. The shards were removed eventually, but her eyesight was never regained. Thus was the beginning of a long road of hatred for her grandmother.
She wasn't even thoroughly surprised when she received her Hogwarts letter. After all, every individual in her family had been a witch or wizard. She had come from a long line of respectable persons in the wizarding community. She was extremely grateful for the reprieve from her grandmother, though she was disheartened and even terrified that her sister would have to endure a whole year alone with "That Wretched Harpy" as her grandmother was thereafter known. Amazingly when she was younger, she was a very sweet, friendly girl, making friends very quickly with the girls, and even the boys her age. That was until she was sorted. She had been put into Slytherin, and immediately, the strong wave of hatred consumed her. She was given looks of dislike by people who had been laughing and having fun with her only minutes before. It wasn't until she heard Slytherin was reputed to be an "evil" house that she finally realised why she was suddenly despised. And she hated it. That didn't make her evil, necessarily. It was the start of her career as Nemesis Nyx, Ice Queen.
Eventually, she learned to forget about everything and pretend that what other people said about her didn't bother her, even though it truly did hurt her quite a bit. Friends were scattered few and far in between, the only people she really could be able to talk to being more obscure individuals, even though she felt that she had simultaenously insulted and flirted with Sirius more than she had ever talked to anyone of these friends, though most of these incidences ended up in a shouting/glaring match, or a deep, metaphysical conversation.
Most of her time had been spent trying to turn Sirius into her bitter adversary, because she felt he infuriated her too much, and for some reason unknown to her. Those were all failed attempts, due to certain realisations about herself and her opinions of him. In more ways than one, they were very much alike. Her hatred became deep respect most people failed to distinguish amidst her sarcasm and insults. It's noteable that she treats him a great deal better when they're alone. And her respect, well, that could so very easily be mistaken for something so much more...
